The World is Sound

Rubin Museum of Art, 2017

Microcontroller  proximity sensor arrays for The World is Sound, Rubin Museum of Art. The exhibit was on view from June 2017 - January 2018. 

 

The brief required custom built autonomous audio triggers with high-resolution audio playback. Arduino R4, HC-SR04 Sonar and an audio shield were used in combination with physical computing and HCI concepts. 

 

OpenFrameworks was used to prototype the software and first generation and ultimately coded in Arduino IDE. Audience interaction and environmental constraints were key to engineering accurate sensing technology.

The interactive sensors were installed in three zones where audience members were instructed to "approach' or "touch" to listen.
